By day, Jadyn North is a full time paramedic. By night, he’s keeping his inner theater kid alive and thriving with his dramatic comedy group They Need Company.
Jadyn’s performing roots go all the way back to high school, where he lit up the stage in improv and theater. One of his most iconic roles? Captain Brackett in South Pacific a performance he still brings up at least twice a year.
Now he channels that same energy into sketch and improv comedy, blending life-saving seriousness with seriously good laughs. Whether he’s writing, performing, or organizing chaos backstage, Jadyn’s heart beats for performing... and also because he's checking his own vitals.
Straight out of Des Moines, Iowa, Matt Strum is an AV engineer by trade and a comedian by pure chaotic destiny. With a love for performing arts and a brain wired for both punchlines and audio cables, Matt brings an offbeat, sharp as a tack style that somehow matches perfectly with Jadyn’s vibe (we’re still waiting on the DNA test they might be twins).
When he’s not making the crew cry laugh during rehearsal, Matt’s busy crafting his upcoming comedy special, Sex, Drugs, and Whac-A-Mole! a wild ride through life’s weirdest corners.
Because talking is his superpower, he’s also launching The Back Back, a talk show where the mic is always hot and the tangents are fully embraced.
Get ready Matt’s just getting warmed up.
Yes. That’s right. A clock. On a stand.
Now, don’t let the Pixar-lamp body fool you. Clocky may appear like a regular clock the kind you’d find in a classroom, or on the wall of your dentist’s office, silently judging you for not flossing but beneath that curved neck and eerily expressive face lies a being of raw theatrical power.
He’s not just any ordinary clock. No, no. Clocky hails from the one, the only… Juilliard School of Performing Arts. Class of ‘09. Drama division. Concentration in stillness and time based presence. He was the first inanimate object to graduate with honors, and to this day, his senior showcase performance a haunting, wordless portrayal of “Waiting for Godot” is still spoken of in hushed tones by critics who can no longer sleep through the night. Clocky lit up the Broadway stage for years. From Tick, Tick... BOOM! to A Clockwork Musical, and his appearances in Hamilton as King George. He decided to leave Hamilton to let new young actors into the lime light.
Then came that fateful afternoon.
Matt was slightly lost in a rental station wagon had taken a wrong turn in New York while trying to make his addition for SpongeBob Square Pants the musical. As fate would have it, he pulled up just outside a theater where Clocky was exiting an audition for Cats when their eyes met. Or rather, Matt’s eyes met Clocky’s blank yet soul penetrating face.
The conversation was instant. Electric. Matt made a joke about daylight savings time. Clocky didn’t laugh but his silence was meaningful.
Within a week, Clocky had moved in. Des Moines was never the same.
And then came Jadyn. The Visionary. The only person who’s ever successfully directed Clocky without being stared into existential oblivion. Together, the three of them Matt, Jadyn, and Clocky formed a creative performing group so rhythmically absurd, that even time itself occasionally glances over and says, “Wait… what the hell are they doing?”
Clocky doesn’t audition anymore. He arrives. He doesn’t take notes. He gives presence. He doesn’t need lines. He is the subtext. This is not just a clock.
This is Clocky.
And the moment you forget that… is the moment your show falls apart.
Hailing from the small but mighty town of Saint Ansgar, Iowa, Jex Schutjer is one of the OGs of They Need Company or as it was first known, Jex and Jadyn.
As the original performing partner of Jadyn North, Jex helped lay the foundation for the group’s signature blend of dramatic comedy.
After years of performing side by side, Jex took a step back from the stage, but he’s far from gone. These days, he works behind the scenes, offering creative input, consulting on projects.
Whether it’s shaping a sketch, offering feedback, or just being the steady voice of reason in a room full of chaos, Jex remains an essential part of the They Need Company DNA. You may even catch him on stage for a show to two.
